flight cage holds how many finch

Post by cookiemom18 » Wed May 09, 2007 6:34 am

I was told that the flight cage we bought could hold like 8 finch.
When I put the size in at a site it said 2 or 3??
My cage is 25x36x12 inches. We have 2 goudians and 2 society (and now 6 society babies in the nest) We planning on 1 or 2 cordon bleu. Some of the babies will be going. What do you think?

Which number is the heighth? My flight cages are 30lx18dx36h. With finches, you are more concerned with the length x depth, since they do a lot more horizontal flying than vertical, versus say parakeets, which like to climb. I do have 8 Star finches in one cage, which I consider overcrowded, but I am dealing with a birdroom redo right now. They seem to be getting along fine, but I have to keep a close eye on things to make sure no one is getting picked on or being kept away from food. Also, none of my birds are breeding right now, so no territorial fighting going on. Gouldians and Societies are pretty easy-going; Cordon Bleus might be a little intimidated by so many other birds.

As Sally pointed out, the best cages for finches are wider rather than taller.
