I am so sorry to hear of the downhill decline of the birds.
I always recommend treating for ASM when you get new birds. This is the very forst step in my quarentine program. It is so overlooked yet so simple to treat. Mant gouldians hace ASM but do not show the symptoms until stressed. Even if they appear healthy always treat. I treat my entire flock at least twice a year as a prevenative.
It is amazing how many other health problems can arise due to ASM such as secondary respiratory infections, lack of rest due to the breathing difficulties. The stress on the body trying to expell those nasty little mites.
Even though you treat the birds, ASM are still in the enviroment. Even if you inspect a new bird and listen to his breathing, it still could be infected even if sight and sound look otherwise. That is why quarentine is SO important. Also always have a medicine/quarentine kit at hand before problems...that way you will be prepared to better handle the situation. It is hard to learn the hard way but I am sure this will make you a better bird keeper. You already have the heart to care and nurture them.... now just read the "Finch Info Center" to the left and learn more :D

To be sure, I also placed an order for Iverlux 4oz and worm away 4oz to be shipped to my sister in Canada who will bring them with her when she comes. So now I have s76 250ml arriving by mail from US and Iverlux from my sister. I hope they don't expire because I am going to have a lot of ASM medication :)

I will treat my flock every three months and any new birds I decide to add will first be selectively chosen, then quarantined with ASM treatment, and finally inspected again before placing in main cage.

I hate when the little things take their last breath on the palm of your hands and you are just standing their helpless :(

Yes, I agree, it is a helpless feeling. That is the part I hate about this hobby. It happens to everyone at some time or another.
Hopefully in the future you will have great success with your birds.
Sorry for your loss.

If I have had my S76 shipped earlier I could have saved him. I am assuming also the female has it and probably my complete flock. I am praying to get that S76 today or tomorrow.
that clicking noise is congestion in the chest and is his lungs drowning ,it's happened to mine once or twice. give them some antibiotic water no water just that for five days and see if that helps

USPS sucks. I paid 43$ for express mail international and until now nothing came (sent Sept 12th). I am very glad I asked my sister to bring Iverlux from Canada :) I just got it yesterday!!

So I took all the water bowls from all cages yesterday night and now I am waiting for my lights to come on so I can give them the medicated water. I am very excited I hope everything will be fine.

I have mixed 3ml of Iverlux with 950ml of water. It is a little more concentrated than what they are asking for. I hope thats fine.

I also noticed 3 days ago that another female bird in my main cage is constantly breathing heavily. I hope I am not to late.

I have read that I need to provide antibiotics or probiotics after medication, I did not buy these. Is it really required, if so is there any alternatives that having to order again online.

Thanks for the comments and help

When treating for air sac mites it is not necessary to follow up with probiotics. But..... I would get some because it is something you should be giving your birds frequently.

You always follow up after antibiotics.

Right now, since you suspect ASM, I would just treat with the S76. Make sure that the only water available to the birds is the medicated water--no baths. You will treat for two days in a row, then next week, treat again for two days in a row (the same two days), then the following week, treat for the third time for the same two days in a row. I don't think you need to give any antibiotics till you have finished the S76 treatment and see if they are doing better. I have not given probiotics after using the Iverlux (or S76), but then I have been treating only preventatively, not going after an active infestation.

Be aware that there is always the possibility that one or more may have such a heavy load of ASM that the dead and dying ASM can cause even more problems--just keep an eye on them.

It sounds like there are many pet shops in your area, since you said you bought from five different ones. Do any of them carry any medications? If not, and there is still time before your sister comes for a visit, you might want to get a few things to have on hand. There is an article at this site that tells some things you could keep in a first aid kit: www.ladygouldianfinch.com.
