Can I house outside?

Post by kouma » Tue Sep 22, 2009 6:49 am

Hello,

I want to build an outside aviary, however I am worried it might be too hot for my Goulds. Where I live, the temperature can reach a highest of 122F however the lowest it will get throughout the year is 77F. Can Goulds tolerate this temperature, as this will allow me to provide them a lot more room (10ft wide x 10ft high x 4ft deep), than inside my house.

Thanks!

You can house outside and its much much better than inside house
its just enough to keep(protect)your birds from direct sunshines.
for health, for breeding for the everything much much better ..

Thanks Batuhan,

Actually putting them outside will be better for me also, I won't need to run a light and a heater 24/7 and even maintenance will be easier.

Thanks for the reply,

Could you rig up some kind of a misting system? That would give them some relief from the heat.

Goulds native environment is quite hot. But also knowing that, know they have shaded areas to rest whenever they desire.

Most people that do outside aviaries in really hot areas provide a enclosed in area to protect from heat, wind, rain, etc. In fact, irregardless of where you are, you should probably provide an enclosed in area for all of those reasons and most importantly, privacy which is good if you want them to breed.

You could also, aside from misting, put in a large bird bath.

And an incredibly rare St. Goldena Breast finch

gouldians will love being outside in the weather conditions you mentioned. as mentioned by others though they will need a shaded area and access to plenty of water ( which will also need to be kept in the shade). in my aviaries I have installed a watering system similar to what is used in gardens. one line of this system is installed in the roof of the aviaries with mist sprayers on it. this is turned on for a couple of minutes every hour when the weather conditions are extreme (40 degree's celcius and above).
havent lost a bird to the heat yet
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.
