I am thinking that it is a Parrot Finch/Gouldian hybrid. The black area on it looks much larger than a normal gouldian's and it almosts looks like it has a blue breast. Below are some pics of parrot finch/gouldian hybrids:

You can sort of see some similarities there. Of course it could be any kind bird hybridized with a gouldian that created that coloration.
That cage is housing some nice finches, let us know if you snatch any of them up.

My guess is that it's a melonistic Gouldian.

I'm sorry but if I'm being honest it doesn't look healthy to me.. neither does the puffy RH WB Yellow hen in the background.
It's also not conformationally what I would consider to be a good bird.. *shrug*
I don't think you should put aside type and conformation just because you want a particular mutation or color
And coming from someone who speaks regularly to people who have tried to maintain the melanism it ALWAYS molts out - which means it is probably the result of a dietary or lighting deficiency.
There is no known heritance of the "melanistic" gouldians

I didn't know that. Thanks nixity. I will withhold from purchasing it. Anyways I have more males to females at the moment (3:1) and if anything I need to get females. To bad it molts because the colors do look nice.nixity wrote:I'm sorry but if I'm being honest it doesn't look healthy to me.. neither does the puffy RH WB Yellow hen in the background.
