new to babies

Post by star » Sat Oct 03, 2009 2:15 pm

Someone please help! My society pair have 4 babies! I am so new to birds and do not know what to feed the parents or the babies when they come out of the nest. I never thought the eggs would hatch because the birds are very young and first time parents.

Congrats on the new babies! As long as you are feeding them the basics now they should be fine til they are fully weaned.

Daily basics = quality finch seed, millet spray, fresh hardboiled egg (with the shell - mashed up together) perhaps mixed with a dry commercial eggfood, fresh water.

This is what the babies will continue to eat once they leave the nest. You can also soak some millet spray overnight to make it easier for the babies to get the seed out of the shell - once they fledge.

Enjoy the babies! And when you do not want any more babies - remove the nest. Finches do NOT need a nest to be happy. =D>
