What type of lighting is the most benefical for indoor cages
Are regular fluorescent lights sufficient or are lights used for reptiles better
I bought one used for repitiles but it has a blueish tint to the light, is that bright enough

I use full-spectrum fluorescent lights, also marketed as natural daylight. I don't think the reptile bulbs are good, except for the ceramic heat emitters used as heat lamps in the winter.

Some companies market full spectrum lighting (including UVA & UVB) for reptiles and these are okay to use for birds. No full spectrum light is as beneficial as natural sunlight, however, though they are the most ideal lights for indoor use. For the birds to receive any benefit from the bulbs, they need to be able to perch within 12" of the light source. The bulbs also need to be replaced about once every 6 months.

Here is a very informative link to birds and lighting. It helped me to understand the different aspects of artificial light. Hope this is helpful.

I ended up choosing a full spectrum flourescent and vitamin supplements to take care of any vitamins they might still need.
