Gouldian Age Expectancy

Post by akidsgal » Thu Oct 15, 2009 3:20 pm

At what age do Gouldians usually die? I am just wondering to make out a chart for my birds. I have only had them for about 4 years.

Thanks for the input....

~8 depending on how hard you breed them
Goulds, Owls, Gold Breasts, Stars, Zebras, Societies
An obscene number of chicks and eggs
And an incredibly rare St. Goldena Breast finch
Anyone want some finches???

I have a Blue male that is 9. I am guessing that he is upon some of his final days. He is looking rather seniory to me....

I have never bred him and have had him for more then a year. She did say she thought he was 8.

I should have been more educated to know if he would live a long time or not. He is happy however and resting a lot more then usual.

He still eats and drinks regularly so I am venturing a guess that his age has caught up with him.

Enjoy him while you can. Make sure to grab some pictures of him while he is in his best plumage so you can always remember him at his best if he does ever pass.

I bought my first pair in 2000 from a pet store so I don't know how old they were...adults. I bred one time and I lost the male early this year and I just lost the hen a month ago. so I had them for 9 years... like I said I do not know how old they were when I bought them.

Maybe a higher average life expectancy due to the fact that we treat our finches so well.
