Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
I put it in the drinking and bath water, 1 drop per 1 oz of water. This slows down how fast the water tube gets slimy. Also since they poop in their bath water, I think it helps to keep the bath water from going bad.

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
thanks... Can you clafify "1 drop" like how much? tsp.?
And you do the same in both? and everyday?
I guess I am wondering is it a tsp. per 8 oz?
Or a tbs. per gallon ratio?
Just dont want to give too much...

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
I only work in small amounts of water, so I just use an eye dropper.
My water tubes are either 2oz or 4oz, so I put either 2 or 4 drops of ACV.
For the bath, I use a small measuring cup to measure out 6, 8 or 10 oz of water, then I add 6, 8 or 10 drops of ACV to the measuring cup.
I suppose for the bath I could mix up a larger batch for all the baths at once, rather than doing it one bath at a time. I only had 1 then 2 cages, so doing it one bath at a time was not a big deal. Now with more cages and more baths, I will be doing it in a larger batch. I am going to have to figure out how many drops go into a 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon.
Someplace on one of the sites they gave the recommended dosage. That is where I got the 1 drop ACV per 1 ounce of water. I do not remember if they gave a ratio for a larger volume of water, I have to search for that site again.

I have lots of birds, so I have a gallon jug I use for water. I add one Tablespoon of ACV to one gallon of water, whether it is for drinking or for baths. My birds don't seem to mind--I don't think they have the same taste buds that we do!

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
Sally, how long do you leave your water in your water tubes with the water/ACVinegar?
I change the tubes out every other day or daily with fresh water plus they have little cups that came with the flight cages, those get changed out with a clean cup and fresh water nightly (they bathe in the cups...they all love that and won't use a bath or dish of water). I dump and rinse the cup during the day and give fresh as needed especially with the owls, they bathe like 5 times a day!
I don't have as many birds as you do, how long will a gallon of the H2O/ACV stay good for?

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
I noticed when my male canary started singing it seemed to attract the gouldian young and they sat and "stared" at him, this seemed to put him off his song until he could get a branch where they couldnt get close enough to bother him. He did warn them with some chittering and wing flapping if they got out of order! This sorting out took a week or so but now they accept his song with out staring at him too often.adiekaty wrote:BTW... my male canary hasn't sang in two days since I put him with the 5 Gould babies... Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
cindy, I should put fresh water in each day, but lately, I'm lucky to keep up with things--every other day is becoming the norm. I normally use up the gallon jug (actually, several gallons), so I don't have it standing around--can't say how long the H2O/ACV mixture would stay OK in the jug.

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar
Maybe I will try making up a half gallon and see if that will do nightly or every other night.
Right now they have a separate water cup and a drinker since they all refuse to use their bath tub bowls. Go figure, they like the cup, one owl stands in it, like he is soaking in it from the shoulders down.
