hi everyone !
just a quick question. i have my zebra female laying eggs continuously since 8 days (one per day of course). there is no nest in the cage so she lays into the food dish. i keep taking eggs out, but next day there is another one in there. will she ever stop ? is there anything i can do to make her stop or is it perfectly normal ?
thanks

Re: continuous egg laying
Is she housed by herself or are there other birds in the cage? I had a white Zeb hen that was bonded to my male Gouldian and she used to do this also. I seperated her and put her with some society finches and had no further problems.

Or if you want, you may replace the real eggs with fake ones and let her sit on those - after a while she'll get the idea and give up.

Re: continuous egg laying
My star hen was doing this. She just kept laying and laying. She was in a cage all by herself for about 3 weeks and every day, an egg was laid. I was getting REALLY worried because she was loosing color in her mask feathers and beak. So I tried everything to get her to stop laying. Well, I finally put her in a bigger flight cage I use for my juves to grow up and turn into adults. She hasnt laid even one egg from the day I put here in there. Her color in her mask and beak have come back and are vibrant once again.
She also hangs out with 3 GB juves and 3 soc juves. She is like Mr. Mom. She preens each and every one of the juves and the GB boy sleeps cuddled up to her every night. I think he has a crush on her.

Re: continuous egg laying
I have a hen that was like yours. Even w/o a nest she would lay eggs; in the feed tray and from the perch (to crash onto the cage floor). I finally has to separate her from her mate, and that stopped her egg laying.

Thanks everyone. I just hope she'll stop soon, I dont want to see her separated from the boy, otherwise I'll have no choice but to do the separation.ac12 wrote:I have a hen that was like yours. Thanks again.
