I can't wait to see the little ones. Your Mopsy and her new hubby are really adorable.

They do look like a male-female pair considering the beak size.It would be best to breed crest to non-crest.And btw do they eat lot of paddy rice?My Societies ignore the millet I offer them and consume mainly paddy.

What exactly is paddy rice? Is it just regular white rice, freshly picked, or is it the rice you buy in the stores? The rice we buy in the supermarket is so hard, I can't imagine feeding it to the birds as is. Do you cook it first? I have a society finch, and am always looking at things to offer her to eat, but wouldn't want to give her something that could hurt her by mistake.

So let me know how you prepare it/serve it please. :)

Paddy Rice is the normal unhulled rice which is brown in colour. My Societies love it a lot.I also have started feeding them groats since they love large seeds.Their beaks are adapted for this.

Thanks. Didn't mean to hijack this thread  - but I will be looking for unhulled rice, if such a thing is available around here. Maybe in an organic/health food store?... hmmmm

Re: "MOPSY" my adopted society finch BABIES :)

At least 3 have hatched probably more. Mom and Dad will not leave their nest. Should I give them a shove so I can have a look? [-X

The only bummer is they are not in as big of a cage as I would like. I have a 36 X 18 inch cage that is empty, is it too risky to move them? I figured it would be at this point, but at point could I move the family to the bigger cage? After they fledge?

Pictures to follow!!! =D>

Congrats on the hatchlings. I would wait until they fledge before moving to a new cage. Societies can handle crowded conditions for a short while without much stress.

It is a bummer when you run the thru quarantine in a small quarantine cage, and they mate in there. That has always been my worry when I get a male and female and take them thru quarantine at the same time.

Unless of course they are zebras, and you decide to feed them with in a seed cup

I have one large indoor cage and one 18x18 cage that was given to me with Mopsy. The larger cage was being used for a bird that was sick and had to be removed from the aviary. I bought a second large cage, but not before my societies laid eggs and started sitting. My new larger cage is ready for them to move in as soon as the babies fledge in a few weeks. After that into the aviary

There are 5 babies out of 6 eggs! =D>
