Gray Singing finch

Post by Sally » Mon Nov 02, 2009 6:11 pm

This is the new male Gray Singing finch I bought at the Ft. Worth Bird Mart. He won't sit still, so this is the best I could do. He is NFSS 09 banded, so I know he is domestic. He is too young to breed right now, but next spring, I hope to pair him with the Gray Singing hen I have (recently lost her mate).

This species tends to be overlooked, as they are very plain, and people often want lots of color in their finches. If you ever heard one sing, you would want one. He has been singing here--the other little male I have has been challenging him to song contests from the next room. What really impressed me is that in all the hustle-bustle of the mart, where most finches don't tend to sing, he was belting it out, loud and clear!

He looks good! I wish I knew what their song sounds like but I'm sure it is beautiful.

Very nice indeed. Someday you'll have to video him so we can hear and watch him. =D>

I love the more colorful finches, but I've always been intrigued by these guys. My local bird store has quite a few of the gray and green. They have a ton of Europeans too.

Enjoy him!

Some of these guys can sing like crazy. They hardly take a breath when singing.
