Yet another amateur question but ......
What kind/species of finches can i keep together ? Are they all happy to get along or can there be rivalry ??
Is it wise to add other species of birds or not ? (i'm thinking small birds like canaries etc, not like cockatiels etc)
Any advice is highly appreciated
Thanks
Gav

I agree with Debb. Think about what species you might be interested in, then go check the info center to see about their demeanor. Some are passive, some pushy, some aggressive. It's best to go with what's passive in a mixed environment.

I agree with the above posts too and keep in mind the size of your cage and how many fids can be kept comfortably.

It will be roughly 8ft wide by 12 ft long (outdoor, covered flight area), with an indoor space of 7ft by 7ft

Wonderful! With that kind of space, you can keep many species of finch. As far as adding canaries, I will leave that to others to answer, I only have finches. There is a compatibility chart at the Finch Information Center, linked at left, which will help you choose species. If you stay with all passive species, you should have no problems. If you start adding pushy or aggressive finches, you will have to watch it carefully--they can really disrupt an aviary.

My two canaries get along wonderfully with my finches. From my personal experience, canaries are very good tempered birds and mix well with other species.Sally wrote: As far as adding canaries, I will leave that to others to answer, I only have finches.
