I've got peeping!!!!

Post by kinnika » Wed Nov 11, 2009 3:35 pm

I heard today for the first time peeping coming from my Courdon Blues nest. I am so excited!!! I have never had such secreative little birds in my life. Are mine different or are they all the same? I have only seen them go in and out of the nest a couple of times and it is very rare that I see them eat. Is there anything I should know to do now that there are babies. I think they should be about 1 week old by now if my dates are right. Any help given will be GREATLY appreciated as I am very new to these little birds. They are not at all like the canaries I raise.

Best of luck!! If they are peeping that means they must be about a week old????

Mine will incubate and feed for about five days and they stop.

I think the best advice would be privacy and lots of mealworms.

Good luck!!!

Congrats! My cordon bleus seem to be the most stubborn. They won't even LOOK in the direction of the nest! I'm so happy for you. I love peeping even when it's coming from a zebra nest.

That is wonderful. Baby Chicks. My RCCB are very quiet and private. He has been singing ad dancing with coco fiber but anything I put in the nest as a liner they remove.

They are beautiful little birds, enjoy your new family!

I have never raised them, I had a pair years ago at the grooming shop. They bred and tossed. I fed wingless fruitflies and mealworms but my pair always tossed. Many other people on this forum have lots more experience with them so maybe they will come and give pointers. Who knows... yours may be great parents.... after all many people do breed them and they must be successful because they seem to be plentiful and reasonable priced. In my earlier comment I didn't mean to imply that yours wouldn't be good parents...just that I haven't heard of any parent raised here on this forum. Some have had societies raise them. That is why it is so exciting that yours are doing it.....
My advice would to keep doing whatever you have been doing...because it seems to be working. Best of luck :D

Congrats! My Owl finches have peeping coming from their nest. I am such a worry wart and keep fussing. I know I need to relax and leave them be... but I am on chick lookout nonetheless. My society finches are on chicks as well, so if all else fails I can do a switcheroo.

Good luck with your Cordon Blues!

That is great about the CBs! Are they Blue-capped or Red-cheeked? My BCCBs toss, as do most of the RCCBs, except for the one little hen I have right now with two babies--she has parent-raised, just a wonderful little mother.

I would say you must be doing something right, so keep on with it! My only advice would be to give them lots of privacy, they need it. If you are feeding live food, such as mealworms, just keep them supplied and don't run out. If you are not doing live food, don't worry about it.

Thanks for all the advice.I am giving them as much privacy as possible and checking every morning with fingers crossed that they haven't tossed the babies. So far so good. They are getting egg, mixed with dry Blood worms. I put mealworms in and they just toss them out. I am also feeding dried egg biscuit softened with a little water and bloodworms on top and they are eating that like crazy. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Keep you updated. Oh they are Red Cheeked and this is their first batch.

That is such great news! Every one of my pairs of red cheeks sit great and then toss when the chicks hatch. I agree with Candace and Sally - don't change a thing!
