didnt think i could get this amateur but ....

Post by FinchDegg » Sat Nov 14, 2009 8:51 am

I've been reading a book i brought recently and it mentions during the breeding season to supply the birds with "egg food". Just wondering if this is just like boiled eggs mashed up or is it some special mix for the birds ??

They currently have normal mixed seed from petstore along with pure grass seed from garden centre(which they seem to love) as well as constant supply of water and excess what i call cuttlefish bone (SEPIA BONE).

Pretty basic question i know but dnt wanna start feeding them this until i'm sure.....

Any help highly appreciated as birds are mating and nest building right this minute, thanks

You can do a search (in the bar above) for "egg food" and get LOTS of previous answers. Yes it means hardboiled eggs possibly mixed with some commercial dry egg food.

Cuttlebone is a must for breeding finches as well. Sounds like you're off to a good start!

Eggfood is a necessity if they are breeding, because it is so high in protein, which those babies need to grow.

If you are making the egg food you should only leave in cage for a few hours as it can spoil,if you get a commercial egg food it won't spoil but will get pooped in and need changed
