Yes, 4 eggs, one not fertile I removed when the chicks were about 8-10 days old- when I took the first pictures. All parent raised with no live food :D
They did have my dry bug mixture, eggfood and lots of boiled eggs :D My pairs of parrot finches are the best parents. I have never had any of the 3 pairs toss. :D

Janine... you know it. I hate the sound of fledglings hitting the floor or wire. It's not so bad in a cage but in the aviary they plunge 8 feet  This aviary doesn't have the soft carefresh bedding either :? Next time it will :D

I have 2 seagreen and 1 regular red and green chicks. They have learned to fly exceptionally well....flying out the aviary door on 3 occaisions. They fly around the parrot finch room and gets everyone worked up. They tire quickly so are easy to net.
Here are the Seagreen at a week out of the nest

And the normal

It is hard to see in the pictures but in person you can easily see the green compared to the blue green.
And Mom... None of my pairs have lost feathers with the mating this year. The males have been gentle and the Hens are in perfect feather, Here is Mom, a nice blue shade in the seagreen.

Very sweet. I hope my pair start again soon. Did you ever give them feathers for their nests? I did just yesterday and they emptied the container. Some floated outside the cage but most are in the nest in one day.

I give mine straight cocnut fibers, the straight and the matted. The only other thing they have put in the nest is millet spray twigs and in one aviary, carefresh beeding chunks
They will pack it with anything you give them but I find that the coco fiber dries out and stays the cleanest.

My other pair are on 4 eggs.... maybe more. I looked a couple of days ago and there were 4, She started incubating heavy yesterday. First time to cage breed. The pair are in a
30"w x 18" D x 60" H flight cage. No live food. This is the pair that bred last year for me. They had 6 offspring last year in the Sun room aviary.

Candace,

What is the youngest you let your Parrot Finches breed? And, what is your oldest Parrot Finch breeding? I have a Pied male that really wants to breed and will build nests and court his girl but she doesn't seem to be interested in him yet. (NO eggs). I was told she might be rejecting him because he is soooo Pied (almost completely yellow).

My youngest was born last Feb. so about 9 months old. It is a male paired with an older hen. They had a clutch of eggs but no hatchlings. I didn't candle so I don't know if they were fertile or not. They are building a new nest so we will see. The others that I have bred were bought from other people and I do not have there exact age. None with closed bands...just plastic. So I don't really know how old they are. I would imagine any where from 1 year to 3 years... I have had them since March, 6 months and they were in adult feather when I bought them. The first pair I bought were said to be born in Spring 2007.
I only have one pied and it is a male that is a light pied. I did not realize that they would reject a heavy pied. Makes sense though.

Thanks Candace :)

Elvis is in the three year range and the female is in the two year range so.... I should be ok...

Here is a picture of Elvis when he was a year old not too long after I got him - now he is mostly yellow.

Elvis is Gorgeous :!: I have been told that with each moult they will get more yellow feathers. My pied is finishing up his moult now and I haven't noticed too much of a change this time.
I would think that their age would be perfect. Best of luck with them :D If you ever get them to breed they make the most attentive parents ever.

Elvis is stunning :!: Best wishes breeding them. :)

IF I could get mine to sit on their eggs - it could be a good thing! :( My pair will be a year next month.

Thank you everyone :)

No eggs yet :(

They are in a cage right now and thinking to let them go in the bird room. Everytime I let any birds go in the room I get babies... or maybe I should let Donna take him and his mate :!: I bet we would get babies in a few weeks
