Precious BH?

Post by lovemyfinch » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:04 am

I took a pic to show because I really wasn't expecting to see anything like this. I have been watching my babies to see any colours coming in and this is what I have. Is it my imagination or are those black feathers coming in on my Precious' face :?:

I don't want to cut your fuse as you could well be right, but IF those are black feathers coming in already  then I think they are probably the bib and ring around his head feathers. Head feathers are typically the last to come in. I've had some red headed hens that I swore were going to be black heads and at the last minute... POOF! the 'black' feathers opened up red, much to my surprise!

JMHO

He sure is keeping an eye on you though! 8)

No fuses blown here :D ...RH or BH I am just happy to have baby gouldians :D  Just seemed strange to me, being as how these black dots seem to be no where in the vicinity of where his bib or band should be. I was expecting him to be a straw head being as how the genetic forecaster said so. Back to the waiting game.

Liz, I am confused now. You posted this Finch Chat , blood scare topic about my bird that only has red face feathers. Confused here :?

"Very common for me also to get the red feathers in the face before any other colouring. Yep first time had me scared for a minute too then it was JOY JOY JOY! "

Sorry about that, Candace. I don't mean to confuse anyone more than myself!

In my yellow backed Gouldians - red has been easy to spot as just that, a spot or two (or three) that can sit for a very long time before actually colouring up. Red seems to show up well on the yellow back Goulds.

In my green backed Gouldians - I've seen black spots that have turned into red feathers... eventually. One of these green hens inthe last two pics below was actually a red-head as you can see in the first pic. (I never remember to post pics in the opposite order that I want them to be viewed!!!)

BTW - how is your red headed yellow Gouldian, Candace? Any new pics?

Okay... that makes sense. Now that I think about it it seems the yellow backs are easier to know what they are going to be earlier than my normal backs. I have some normal hens that have really dark heads with just a hint of red.
What causes this rudy look? Is it a certain cross or a certain line?

On my BB I saw the blue feathers on the back of the neck first, then the breast and back on the neck..... I thought they would be black head but the head stopped.... but no real color on the face...looks like I will have to post another picture....

Same as for the Green backs. I currently have some "salmon" headed Blue's colouring up and they have the black spots which seem to take forever to turn to red/salmon or even fill in for black.

Do you know for sure whether he will be a BH or a RH? It could well be that he's beginning to colour up - I'm sure he is but it's just not a quick process... I wish it were! By the time he's four months old, he could be all done colouring up. =D>

Yes please Candace. [-o< I am just really curious as to why these black feathers or dots which actually are popping up all over his head. At first I thought I must be imagining things (he is supposed to be a RH  ) but after taking the picture, I could see it much clearer. The other 2 have nothing whatsoever. :?

Okay then if you know he's going to be RH, he will eventually look like the bird in my pick below and the black will (as in 99.999%) turn a salmon colour (if they don't go black). I love the RH/BB's :!: =D>

That is what I was hoping for Liz. [-o< That he would look at least similar to your Blue Boy. I actually jumped up and down when I saw Precious dancing the other day, because now I know that his colours will be pronounced =D>

I hope that means my blue baby is going to be a girl :) I haven't seen her sing or anything but I saw my green baby sing. No dancing though yet. My babies are older then yours so hopefully that means the sexes are set at least
