Wasting Eggfood ....

Post by FinchDegg » Thu Nov 26, 2009 10:00 am

I have been supplying my zebbies with a freshly boiled egg every morning whilst their breeding and my problem is because i only have my 2 whites, a lot of it gets thrown out, just wondering if anyone has any tips on either storing it or other methods of keeping it ?

Any advice appreciated
thanks

You can boil more eggs and put a days amount in plastic bag and then freeze just thaw one out at a time.I do a months worth at a time no problems

Ditto here. I mix my hardboiled eggs with soakseed and freeze - taking out what I need for a couple of days (the rest goes into the fridge).

When I mix up a batch and put it in the fridge, it does not keep for a week. At about day 5 it starts to get clumply/sticky. That is my clue to dump it and make a new batch.

It is hard to make a SMALL batch for only a few birds. So the idea of making a batch and freezing part of it sound good to me as well.

I'm not trying to be facetious but are your eggs expensive? I prepare 1 egg a week for 2 birds and just refrigerate it. I use less than 25% of the egg by the end of the week but I just prepare another. An egg costs 15 cents so I have no problem if most goes in the trash.
Weekly preparation of 1 egg is no big deal compared to what others with large flocks need to prepare so our birds are afforded the luxury of fresh eggfood every week. I'd even do it twice a week if I wasn't so lazy.

I bought this egg sandwich toaster a few years ago in an attempt to stop me from going to McDonalds way too much. Conviently enough it boils eggs in the shell too-even one at a time....

Wow! I want one of these! I've never seen them here... and I don't think there's an Ace hardware here. I'll definitely be looking for one of those!
