Two of my 4 baby Societies have decided to do a little exploring. They are adorable!

The proud father.

The caring mother.

The oldest...but not the bravest!

The second oldest, but the first to venture out. It's not the best picture, but I wanted you guys to see his little spots on his head!

One of the younger babies. Notice his poor crossed beak.[/img]

Those are some very cute society finches! Would you mind if I use the photos you have taken of the cross-billed baby on my finchinfo.com site? I will give credit to you for the photos.
Let me know!
From what I'm reading so far about scissor beak, the cause is unknown and the treatment options available include trimming the beak in an attempt to force it to grow in the correct direction, and applying pressure to the beak at least twice a day with your fingers to help correct the problem. In larger parrots (e.g. macaw), a dental acrylic ramp can be applied to the beak once it calcifies to place corrective pressure on the beak...but I don't know if this is done on smaller birds like finches. I would try the digital pressure and if that doesn't work, consider corrective beak trims.
I'll let you know if I come across any other tips in my reading.

Sure you can use it! I love taking pictures of my finches. I can get some better ones later on if you want.
I wasn't sure if the parents were somehow related or what. I doubt it though. Hopefully the little guy will be able to eat ok.

Lovely little Society family.
I hope the crossed beak can be corrected.

I just put the camera up and it just 'sees' right past the bars. It's my dad's big fancy canon camera. It's awesome.

I've got a ton more pictures of them now, fully feathered and still adorable! But for now, here's a picture of the scissorbeak one. I'm pretty sure he(or she....when do the little guys start singing?) can eat ok on his own.

That's a pretty severe crossed beak. I would expect that bird to have some difficulty eating. Glad to see it seems to be doing okay.

Yeah. I'll probably have to keep him. The petstores might get bad if I give them a 'bad' bird. Poor little guy. Oh well. He'll have a nice home in my new big aviary!
