BTW- why do I get emails for some of the posts but not all of them? Like I got Candace's post but not the post from Cindy and Liz.

Sorry - I have no idea as I have mine set to no emails (I guess). I always come on to the forum to check what's new.

Candice, thank you so much for documenting that for us. That first picture---wow are they tiny!!! I would of been scared to death to hold them!!! Its amazing how those ulgy hatchlings grow up to be such beautiful birds!!! Have a question, does the sea green occur in the wild?
2 Stars, 2 Javas, 1 male Canary, 1 Cockatiel, 2 cats, 2 dogs, and a wonderful husband!!!!

Leda,
This is a great question :!: I have been researching this and I still just do not know. I would say that probably not. Just like you do not see blue gouldians in the wild. The odds of a mutation happening in the wild and then that 1 particular pairing up with another that could pass that gene/color on would be extremely rare. Odds are against it.
The Red throats come from New Caledonia region of Austrailia.
These are some of my favorite finches that I have ever kept.

Cando, as you have the same birds as me. I wanted to know if you notice how often the parents feed their fledglings. Mine seem to ignore the young and it does not look like they feed them. Yet they survive so they must be getting fed.

Comparing parrot fledglings to other finches like the zebras, society, silverbills or firefinches I just see very little feeding going on with the Parrots.
Is it just my lazy pair? I have even seen the fledglings beg from Bluecaps which happily feed them if they ask long enough. Yesterday one of my fledglings was flying after my canary for food as it had preened it earlier. Seems if you give them attention they take it you provide food too!?

I have seen my parents (of all pairs) eat almost a half of boiled egg at one taking. They fly to the nest and quickly come back out.
I have noticed that these chicks have wider beaks than most other young species when they are young. I am suspecting that the parents regurgitate large quanities less often to the chicks.
My gouldians will eat and feed throughout the day taking small quanities at the time. These parrots are 'gut loaders" :D Huge amount of reguritaion to wide mouth always willing to take food young :D
So maybe your pair is not lazy...just effecient :D

No eggs yet :(

They are in a cage right now and thinking to let them go in the bird room. Everytime I let any birds go in the room I get babies... or maybe I should let Donna take him and his mate :!: I bet we would get babies in a few weeks

I think Misty needs to update this post.
