Happy New Society

Post by FinchDegg » Wed Dec 09, 2009 1:05 pm

Just got back from a local petstore (where i got zebbies) which i fetched some supplies, seed, mealworms etc...

Whilst there i had a look around the cages/flights spotting some very attractive birds, shaft tails, star finches etc ... i was literally this close to purchasing the shaft tail when over in the corner of one of the aviaries i spotted 2 Bengalese cuddled up together with some other finches, after standing there 15, 20 minutes looking at the health of the birds i couldn't resist changing my mind and purchasing the pair (£10 for both), admittedly at the minute they look a little shabby (perhaps molting) but i'm sure with a couple of weeks of FinchDeggs TLC and plenty of freshly boiled egg every morning i'll have them looking pristine in no time (just as i did with me zebs) ......

On the downside somewhere on route from the shop to home i lost my bankcard :( :( .... but luckily i have enough in my pocket to "MAYBE" fetch the shafttail tomorrow :) :) .... just have the GF to convince now lol , she has prob seen about 50 pictures in the last 10 minutes :)

Just thought i'd share my news :)

Congrats on the newest arrivals. =D> I am sure that you will whip them in shape in no time :D

Call your bank immediately and cancel the card. I am not sure how it works where you are, but out here I can just enter the bank and they will issue a new one. That way you could have more than enough to buy the shaftail

Congrats on your new birds and I just love people like you.... you would rather take the less than perfect bird home because it is in need than settle for only the perfect specimens.

I am sure with your TLC they will thrive :D

oh Cando, believe me when i say they just looked at me in a manner more related to gorillas lol, like i say the browny cream 1 looks either halfway through a molt, just beginning or is just in desperate need of a good high protein diet (which he/she will get) i'll also provide them a fresh bath everyday for a few weeks, and maybe a few treats in the way of mealworms, and with a bit of love they will join my zebbies on top of the food chain (in my house anyhows lol).

Please don't get me wrong, the petstore i use is top quality, they are all birdlovers in their section, but i think occassionally they take in "excess birds" from breeders or from the RSPCA (our animal authority) ....

Will post some pics tomorrow as they are now and then in a few weeks after my TLC :) :)

Update ....

Firstly i found my bankcard :) :) .... (In the bin ????)

Secondly, Its the best bug i've ever caught :)

Thirdly, They have settled down loads overnight, had first proper feed and drink this morning first thing.

Fourthly, Foreign Finch Seed or Parakeet Mix ?? I have just read that Societies like Parakeet Mix ?? Any recommendations ??

And last but not least some pics of my little scruffies (although the camera obviously likes them :) ... They still a little skittish so getting clean snaps was tricky lol, will get some more in a few weeks after TLC :) )

Just to note on this last pic, how the cage looks quite narrow thats just 1 "Turret" of it, its a kinda castle shape and could quite easily fit another 4 in ..(but dnt worry this is their castle and theirs alone :) )

For being scruffies they are quite sweet. =D> Don't worry about the cage, I had a pair of zebras raise a clutch of 6 in one that size. Before I go hubby to build my aviary.(Which is now  full)

FD
Use a long lens, or your zoom on the longest tele setting.
By staying farther away from the cage when you take pix, you spook them less, and can get better pix.

They finally realised that the boiled egg they have been getting first thing every morning is good for them, and are tucking into like chocolate (soon have their coats all shiny and new :) )
