Sure thing, I'll take more shots tonight but what will that prove? Looking at the blue ring around his head/neck makes me believe he is a single facter yellow. Though I just noticed last night that he has one spot of green in the middle of his back...? Are you wondering if he is in fact a yellow rather than a dilute? I thought the grey head depicts him as a dilute. Don't confuse me more than I already am. [-X

I don't doubt that he is SF Yellow - what I am really wondering is whether he is perhaps Lilac Breast and that is why he is so yellow looking from the photos :)
Seeing his back will give me a better idea to his color and whether he has more green than I can tell from the profile shots :)

Ohhhh! Okay, now I understand a bit more. He didn't look really different from my other PB males but I'd be more than happy if he has a lilac breast instead of a purple breast (just for a change of pace)!

Here are some pics of his back from tonight. Hope it helps! Very difficult to position them and have them hold still for pics. He absolutely HATES the red light on the camera. :( Poor boy.

Thank you Janine - I'm pleased that you like him as much as I do! :D I noticed that blue on his tail too! Hopefully I can get babies as good looking as him - I just need to figure out what hen to pair him with.

Liz I'm really starting to agree with Deb here, I think your boy might be Lilac. I have seen SF PB males that have more yellow in them, but certainly not to this degree.
He has more of the amount of yellow I'd expect to see in a Lilac or WB SF Yellow...

Isn't that exciting :D :D

You will know either way once these two breed, if you don't get any dilutes at all, or you get some others that are clearly LB you will know for sure :)

Love the grey headed birds. I have three DF yellow males mated to BH normal hens for the coming season just so I can get lots of grey headed cocks.

Thanks Matt and Tiffany! It will be very exciting and cool to see what they produce in another month or 6 weeks! :D

Beautiful birds :)

I do see where your daughter saw some discharge around the nasal area - it looks a little wet? Maybe he just took a bath?

I have to agree that this male is a LILAC breast - compare him to my male on my website with the same back color. There is no mistaking that Potter is a PURPLE breast.

Potter is beautiful Misty but it looks like you did not use a flash whereas I did, and I have to wonder if Knight shows up as a possible Lilac due to the flash used.

The other thing, too, is that see Misty's photo it's totally obvious (to me) that Potter is DF Yellow because of how light his head is.. whereas Liz's bird is a more charcoal color.. so we know he absolutely is not DF yellow and couldn't be "PB DF Yellow" based on how dark his head and neck ring are.

It's just a matter of whether he's LB or a VERY yellow Dilute :\
At this point I still vote for Lilac Breast, but you never know :)

Sorry - missed replying to this important part. Nope - definitely no bathing going on here. I still can't see any area that looks wet. Damn glasses. Maybe antiB's are called for after all. :?

I don't think I'd treat him with abx if he wasn't showing any other signs of something being wrong. Even without available bath water I've had my birds get water on the tops of their heads from the water tubes and I thought they'd knocked themselves on something and were bleeding.. just water :\
I think I see what your daughter is talking about, but if he doesn't show any classical signs of illness I'd just wait and see for now..
