New Gould
I got a new bird last night. It's a Blueback gould with a black head and white breast. It's a male I believe.
The gentleman I purchased it from had about 6 birds (each a different species), 2 to a cage. The cages were tiny antique hanging cages that were only big enough to really be transport cages. I felt rather sorry for them all.
The gould I bought from him had been housed with a female orange weaver and it seems she had pecked his little toes terribly. Aside from his toes however, he is very bright and healthy looking. I will post pics tonight, I have to get some batteries for our camera on my way home.

Re: New Gould
Meagan, I sure hope his toes heal nicely. If you have colloidal silver it would help heal quickly. Diatomaceous earth would also be beneficial. It would keep out infection.

I'm afraid that it seems most of the damage has healed. They do look rather pitiful. But he seems to get around just fine.JohnBoy wrote:Meagan, I sure hope his toes heal nicely. Re: New Gould
I have wonderful news that is at the same time disturbing
. I took him out of the cage this evening to look at his toes and realized that the two toes that looked so bad were not actually damaged. But get this,,, It was birdie poop that had balled up firmly around the tips of two toes. I spent about 15 min with warm water and qtips trying to clean his feet and toes. I was only semi successful, but he looks a mess now. I will let him recover tonight and try for the pictures again tomorrow. Sorry all.

Congratulations, Meagan! I am always glad to hear of a rescue, plus your new male sounds like he's very handsome.. even with 'poopy toes' !
Poop goes away a lot faster than an injury.

Have a question for johnboy. How do you use the diatomaceous earth.

Re: New Gould
If it is still something you need to clean, and you can easily get it - go out and grab some mineral oil.. it works wonders cleaning feet..
A tip for anyone who decides one day they want to show.. it's great at getting poop off feet when birds have been show cage training

Re: New Gould
So here he is. He is quite lovely but needs love, more space, good food, and some supplements. I plan to fatten him up, get those feathers filled out and see him brighten (in all aspects).
Look at the poor fellows feet
. They were worse. I am still getting them cleaned up, but don't want to stress him out too much.

Re: New Gould
Thanks
He still will not touch the eggfood. Maybe when his 3 weeks are up I could put him in my flight and let my other birds show him what he's supposed to eat.
