The most bitter orange cheek?

Post by Domenic » Mon Dec 21, 2009 6:07 am

Just got a new orange cheek today and he is doing fine, but the orange cheek I already had is a violent little loner. He/she attacks everyone that comes near. When I introduced the new orange cheek my other orange cheek wouldn't let him get within a foot without warning him loudly to get away. I've never heard of an orange cheek as aggressive and bitter as mine and I just don't understand it. Do you think it just needs time to warm up to the new orange cheek? I can't imagine a finch that doesn't want any company for the rest of it's life.

Congrats on your new fid. =D> I am thinking that maybe she is just establishing her territoory, being as how she has been alone for a while now...just protecting what she feels is rightfully hers.

Domenic, When I had mine in with Gold Breasts the male would raid their nest, taking over and building in them and chasing them away. I don't know if you recall I lost one of my little male Gold Breast, I believe it was because he was chased and flew into the side of the cage and broke his neck.

I moved the pair (what I thought was a pair) into a separate cage) One continued to build, but they did nothing. I knew John had some and decided to send them to him. So off they went with the Red Headed Finches to La.

When John got them he told me they are both males. I, like you were puzzled by how they were colored out, I went based on pictures I saw on various sites, one had pale orange yellow cheeks and had the orange staining around the vent area but displayed male behavior, sang, the other displayed female behavior, never sang and had the most dark orange cheeks and no vent coloring.

I had read orange cheeks are tricky to sex because the females sometimes look like the males and vs.

They are now with John awaiting lady friends.

The site below has pictures of the underside of the finches for sexing, my one was missing the salmon coloring around the vent, I assumed it was a female.

It is from our forum!!!!
