Post by lisalambourne » Thu Jun 21, 2007 9:47 am

:D Hi we are have found a finch breeder somewhere very local and are going to look on sunday, I am hoping to come back with a mate for Cash. I know he won't be able to be put in with her and the chicks but he cn have his quarrentine period and then we will put his cadge next to hers for a while see if they chat. I am well excited specially posting such a rant that I did yesterday. How long for quarrentine and when would any of you try to introduce a friend in my situation, I don't mind how long I gotto wait I wan't to do it right, whats best for Cash is important here...thanks... lisa...

I would keep the new bird well away from the hen. Even if she were to only hear him singing, she could become distracted and abandon the chicks. Keep them in opposite ends of the house, as far apart as possible.

Zebras are breeding machines and are often eager to start on a second family before they have raised the first. Once the chicks are fully independent you could move the hen into the males cage. Take care.

When you are ready to get a new mate, quarantine him in a separate room for 6-8 weeks. During this time it is okay to treat for mites and worms.
