Female gould courting behavior?

Post by Meagan83 » Thu Jan 14, 2010 11:52 am

My new blueback male is currently paired with a red head hen. This morning he was singing and hopping his heart out when I saw something I have never seen; The female was mimicking part of the males behavior. You know how the male will lower his beak to his chest and sort of start quivering his head back and forth right before singing? (It looks similar to preening almost) My hen was doing this while he was singing and hopping. Is this normal? She did it twice this morning while he was courting her. I have never seen a hen do this.

Yes, very normal and great you got to witness that :D
My hens will do the same..then the males start hopping. I have never seen a hen hop. They are bonding...soon housekeeping =D>

Yay! Then you think this is a good sign that she likes him?

Yes, in gouldians speak that means -grab your coat, you've pulled!-

Someone's gonna have eggs soon.

Infertility is pretty uncommon :)

When I see my hen's bowing and shaking, and ESPECIALLY if I see them flutter their tails up and down real fast (something you may not have seen yet), I know the hen is REALLY randy for the male ;)
It is a good sign you have a receptive match/pair.
