Feces piling up in nest from babies!!

Post by shanni_finch » Tue Jun 26, 2007 11:21 am

Hi everyone :) !

I am new to the forum and have a pair of societys with a clutch of two week old babies. I have read on the internet not to change the nest if it gets covered with feces, but can the babies and parents get sick from all the droppings? I am worried about them all. The babies just started opening their eyes and are being well taken care of by mom and dad. They are nice and fat! There are a total of 5 babies and I am keeping them all.

Thanks for the help

Shanon

Normally I would agree you shouldn't mess with the nest. BUT Societies are usually pretty tolerant. If you feel the nest is getting super nasty, five chicks can produce alot of poo, then get an identical nest and replace the yucky one. If you are using the wicker nests, give them the largest one you can find.
