Re: Finches and Canaries?
Depends on WHICH finch, and how much horizontal space they have and how many finches/canaries.
I would not put any of the pushy finches like zebras. Zebras can be terrors to other zebras. I have sent several of my most aggressive zebras to the bird shop because they created so much chaos in my community cage.

I agree with this. In the past I tried housing a pair of zebs in my flight, and yes, they even chased around my poor canaries. My 2 canaries are just big pushovers, the poor things looked terrified even though they were the larger of the two species.ac12 wrote:Depends on WHICH finch, and how much horizontal space they have and how many finches/canaries.

What about having Society and Zebs in the same aviary

I guess it's a personal choice.zebbiefan wrote:What about having Society and Zebs in the same aviary
I (personally) would not intermix zebs with passive species. They tend to bully and chase...

Re: Finches and Canaries?
The info center has a species list that catagorizes according to whether the birds are passive, pushy, or aggressive.
I keep all passive birds in my flight. It's a great community. They all get along very well. When you add pushy birds, there can be high stress because of chasing and hissing and pecking all day. Usually pushy birds won't hurt other birds, just harass them. But I don't feel that the tension and stress on the other birds is worth it.

That may be okay.
We cannot have Javas here in KY so I have not had them before and I'm not sure of their temperment. I think they are passive, but listed among the pushy because of their large size.
