New Bird Box

Post by zebbiefan » Thu Mar 18, 2010 3:20 pm

This is the bird box
For some reason the finches wont go in it, is there something I can do to entice them in there or is there something I'm doing wrong

I always start the nest for the birds by adding the nesting fibers inside. Then I take a few nesting fibers, and dangle them from the openeing. Seems they just can't resist checking it out.
Interesting box. I know the angle pieces are a shelf landing but how deep is it to the bottom?

Not too deep and there is a perch at the bottom too

I might be wrong as i don't know what type of birds you have but i'll list what i think is wrong. It might be good for hookbills.

1. Its too deep - make it half the height

2. Perches inside - put them outside

3. I see two entrances - only put one entrance

Don't hate me [-X

Have to agree with Cartel, if you have zebras and societys then they like to bild upp a nest so they can watch outside will sitting on eggs.

So I thinks its to deep, it gets to dark in the box and they cant finde there way out. goldians might like your nestbox, they want the dark box..

What type of birds are you wanting to breed in this?

I think it is too "horizontal"

The depth isn't necessarily the issue for me so much as the orientation..
As far as Gouldians are concerned I use deeper than normal nest boxes compared to others but mine are longer horizontally whereas yours is taller than it is wide and narrow from front to back.
I think if you turned it on it's side and chopped it in half it would work better - at least for Gouldians.
