Okay... I realize this is kind of like asking who your favorite family member is but...

What is the best finch(in your opinion) and why? I am now begging my parents to let me get a pair but so far the answer has been "not today..." lol

But I am looking towards a pair of Owls. Deep down I know I'll be getting zebras or Societies as they are most popular, what should I get? Preferably something not hard to breed so I can have some young ones but something with character too... What do you say?

My vote would have to society finches! I have zebras and a canary, too which I love, but if I could only have one kind it would be a little flock of societies.

Having both Zeb's and Society's its really hard to choose. My Zeb's are real characters and quite tame but the Society's tend to keep away. Both Zeb's & Society's breed really easy. Why not have a pair of each

LOL I wish!!! My mom, for some reason that I don't know(I don't think she does either...) has a thing against birds in houses. Dad and big bro don't like animals so... I guess I'm lucky they tolerate them.

But I like the way they all look but I dunno.
Hey Hoji- Why do you like Society's so much? They're song or looks or what? I'm trying to develop a "mental" pros and cons thingy... lol

Between Societies and Zebras, my vote would have to be the Societies. The Zebras have tons of personality, but some can be aggressive, some feather pluck, and they breed like rabbits. The Societies get along with just about everyone, very laid back, mine don't feather pluck, and even their breeding, while very easy, is also easier to control than Zebras. To me, the only drawback to Scocieties is the difficulty to sex them--you have to hear the male sing, and the only way to be absolutely sure you have a female is when she lays an egg! Once you get past these two species, it is really difficult to pick a favorite.

So if I wanted to get a pair and know that I had a pair, I should go ahead and get Zebras? I've really gotta get a book on these things...

Since I'll only have a pair, maybe, I would like Zebras for color and character. I dunno..... I'm so confused...

If you live in a household with non animal lovers, then I would suggest you go with Societies. They are sweet and fairly quiet. Zebras are loud, aggressive and some find their song very annoying.
Keep peace in the house and go with Societies.

I agree - for a non-animal household I would go with societies. They also have a nicer song, and the colors can be fun.

Man, your folks would rather have a goat or a pig than a little tiny finch?

Does your weather permit you to build an outside flight cage? Maybe that will solve the problem of the indoor bird and allow you more options for your birdies!

Hey, yes the weather does permit building of a flight outdoors. In fact I am in the process of building a rather large aviary right now. It will be over 250 sq. feet. But I really want some indoor animals again... I've has hamsters, gerbils and a turtle. But I want a birds now... Inside my room. It's just something I've always wanted.

You have an amazing ability to sleep. I have had hamsters and birds inside my room. They are quite messy and noisy little fellows :] and they all ended up in some other room of the house, where they are happier and I am too.
If you wan something in your room, go with fish or something XD

lol
My parents say that I would stay asleep even if the house fell down... Or some analogy like that...

But yes I am a very heavy sleeper. and about the fish, I've had those too... They died after2 or 3 years though... And they were never a very interesting bunch either. Just swam around chasing the poor guppies...
