Expanded indoor aviary...

Post by newlinta » Thu Apr 01, 2010 5:02 pm

Over the weekend I doubled the size of my aviary, added a water fountain/feature, changed the night lights to a string of grapevine ball lights and moved my societies in...
The size is now about 10' wide x 6' deep x 7' high.
I still have to close in the front/top to hide the shop lights and maybe add some more plants(silk), but other than that its pretty much done.
This room is the bird room/laundry room/computer room, so I get to see the birds any time I'm at the computer or doing laundry...lol.
Here are some pics...

It now houses a pair of goldbreasts, about a dozen gouldians and a dozen societies...though I'm trying to sell/trade most of the societies(if anyone is interested...lol).

ps: here is a efore pic when it was only 3 feet deep...

Lovely! =D> =D> =D>

I have the same blue water fountain! Only mine is outside on our backdeck in summer.... :-)

Since my birds don't seem to care for the 3-tiered fountain that I got for them a few months ago, maybe I should switch... Are your's actually going into the bowls and drinking from the fountain? I see one of your goulds is sitting on it... Are these rocks or marbles in the bowls?
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!!

I also added a second 4 foot shop light for the front of the space...
I really love the new night lights, too.The pic doesn't do them justice, but it's really beautiful at night.

Ursula,
They are small river rocks, so they're pretty smooth...
The birds took about a day and a half to get used to it.
I left the old hanging bath in there for 2 days then took it out.

The birds seem to be loving all the space!! There is so much activity in there it's amazing...
They had lots of space before but now it's like "WOOHOO!!!"

Awesome =D>

I'm curious though - how do you clean the fountain? And or how often do you have to clean it?

I have to try that fountain in my aviary.

Misty, these are actually individual ceramic bowls on a metal stand. Easy to clean!

Misty,
I change the water every 2-3 days and take it apart and clean it once a week.
Ursula is right...it is all seperate bowls on a metal stand, so I dump the stones in a bucket of bleach solution and run the bowls through the dishwasher.
Pretty easy.
