You are a dream builder for finches! The hole that you are speaking of that they can go out and come in at, is it a window? Truly intelligent and thought out. Thanks for the pics!

Thank you. The hole is a hole in the wall that i made by taking out half a brick.

YOu can see it here, when the inside flight was less heavily planted.

The sun is out in London =D> =D>

I thought I'd share some photos of how the aviary is developing. This is the new water feature I've added to it. The birds like it, especially the strawberry finches and the owl finches.

Amazing!!! Wish I had more outdoor space...I'd do the same thing.
Unfortunately, My indoor aviary is on the second floor...if only I could figure out a way to do a "suspended"
outdoor section...lol

Thank you for resurrecting it. I had forgotten about this old post of mine.

An update: the birds obviously loved their set up and I had a total of 10 owl finches babies, 11 new gouldians, 4 strawberry babies, and my newly imported lavenders had 1 chick but didn’t finish raising it.

Next spring, I will extend the aviary by another 14 ft making it a total of 32 ft long (about 10 meters). I can’t wait to see my birds is all that space.

Fabulous looking set up with good results it seems! Your birds obviously love all the hard work you have put into their home.

Thank you Jeannine and Monique. It was only my second year of keeping finches so I put it down to space, research and lots of luck! I hope that this summer I’ll have some baby lavenders and green twinspots. These two species are still very rare in the UK and we need to increase the number of them in captivity.

Monique, I’ve been looking at your beautiful new gouldians yesterday. Your yellow females are so beautiful and so is your dilute male! I’m so glad to see there are other bird addicts in CT (and SA in general), as I plan to relocate there in 3 years time.

There are plenty of use addicted to finches here, so you won't be dissapointed on availability or variety that you can keep. Since we can import etc you would be able to bring your birds with you too if you so chose. Green Twinspots are not regulars for sale here either.

How did you make the stream?
