Cheap lighting?

Post by Meagan83 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 4:26 pm

I have stackables and it seems to me that the cages are dim. I have 4 breeder cages. Is there a web site where I can find some inexpensive light fixtures to set on the top of the cages? :?

How about these?

Is there room to set lights on top of the cages that have cages above them?

I use clamp on lamps from Home Depot clamped to the side of the cages on my stacks. Only the top cage can get top lighting.
I use 2 different size reflectors. Large w no nest and small for putting next to a nest. Unfortunately, when you light each individual cage, the cost of lighting goes up fast. If you can rig a SECURE setup where a single 4 ft flourescent fixture can illuminate 3 or 4 stacked cages at once, you will save on cost.

Franny, those look PERFECT! Yes, there is space between each cage. I think that would fit! Thanks!

I use something similar you can buy at wal-mart for about $6.99 a light.
They are called "under-cabinet" lights and they fit perfectly in the space between the cages if you are using the stand for the breeders.

You can see some of them here

I transitioned over to the cabinet lights on all the breeders and eliminated the clamp lights because they are less pleasing to the eye :)

I replaced the stock bulb that comes with it with 18" "GE Sunshine" bulbs sold at Lowes.

I got mine at Walmart here in Canada, but couldn't seem to link to the American site (.com), and I had wanted to find an American site for you so linked to the ones at Home Depot, which appear to be very similar.

But of course Walmart is almost always a better price! :D
