Wondering...

Post by babydoll101 » Wed May 19, 2010 5:39 pm

I have completely forgot to mention to everyone what types my zebra finches are. I have a fawn hen and a normal male. I am wondering what the hatchlings are going to be. My breeder had a white with the cluth that I got my fawn hen from. I just can't wait to see them when they molt. Am I going completely nuts or does this happen to everyone their fist clutch?

It's hard to say exactly because as we have discussed numerous times on this forum, Zebras are very good at carrying splits. There are like little "genetic jack in the boxes", you never know what's going to pop up.

Unless your male is split to Fawn, any Fawn chicks will be females. Your males will probably be Normal Gray. Do you know what sex the white finch was? Was it solid white or did it have some teardrop and tail bar markings? (CFW) The most common scenario would probably be a female CFW. which again, unless the male is split to that mutation, any CFW's that you might get would be females. Of course it would be just like Zebras to throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing and you wind up with none of the above. As has been said on here time and again, Zebras are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

Oh, and no you aren't going completely nuts. We are probably on something like our thirtieth clutch and we still get excited to see what results.
30+ Zebra Finches (The actual number constantly changes) 2 Rabbits (1 Mini Rex, 1 Dutch), 1 Grouchy Old Fart, and 1 Dang Redhead

hehe, thank you!
The white was a pure white and believed to be female.

I even dreamed about the hatchlings last night
