Zebra Finch 'Natural' Nest

Post by finchluver10 » Sat May 29, 2010 1:24 pm

Hey everyone! Here is some pics of the large, 'natural' nest by zebras made by using a canary basket as a base! It took them about 3 or 4 days to build, and is completely made out of coco fiber and they lined the inside of it with white feathers. They are currently sitting on eggs, however how many I have no idea. I can't peak!  Enjoy!

That's an impressive nest. I didn't know zebras were capable of that. Mine are the worst nest builders in history.

Awesome nest. I too have found that zebra finches can be quite crafty with builing nest. I had removed all the nest in an aviary but had left dried grasses on the stalk and bambo in the aviary. At first I thought it was the weavers building a nest in the branches but to my surprize it was the zebras. They would gather and rip the grasses and build and build................ unfortunately I had to removed them , along with all the nesting material. They were just overbreeding and I hadn't removed the young so I was afraid of inbreeding.
Anyway, fine builders you have there :D
