I offered the three in separate dishes to both owl flights...they dove in, the top winner was Japanese millet, runner up Brown top millet.
The ate it all. The dove proso was nibbled on but the other two won.
I did the same test on my Lavendars and Green singers....same results.
The samples were given along side they usual store bought seed mix and Zupreem pellets. Pellets were still eaten but the store bought seed mix was ignored. The Lavenders are on ABBA which is the seed from the previous owner. They ignored the ABBA.
Now what I did with the zebras and shaft tails...I mixed a simple parakeet blend with some of the Japanese, Brown top and Dove proso....they downed the Japanese, Brown top...some Dove proso, some of the millet and oats from the store brand. They also downed pellets...evident by the colored powder at the bottom of the dish.
We are going to try fresh Red millet and German Foxtail millet soon...plus we will be sprouting Purple Top turnips, Durana White Clover and Alfalfa for green munchies.
Tonight I added fresh canary seed and thisle to the Green Singer, owls and Lavendars dishes and everyone got a dish of chopped soybeans, oats and pendovics....resuts wil be in tomorrow ~ did they like it? Tune in.
Nancy...I thank you and I think we are on to something here!!!!! and I don't think my finches mind being test subjects!!!
