They really are adorable :D I love the crested look.

I think the black tails are really wierd and I don't really know what mutations might cause this.

From what I found out in adults there are two mutations that have black tails, charcoal and black front.

Sooo I really hve no idea here :P And it seems very unlikely that the parents are plucking them and only the coloured feather.

As boring as it seems, it looks like we need to see them molt.

I agree.....the male uncrested, not pied is really handsome in person. I did look up the two mutations you mentioned, I agree with you a molt is needed to judge what is at play here. Then again it may not show until they are bred.
