Hi.
Is the chick fully feathered and flying? If so it should be safe to remove the nest, if you want to be sure the parents won't start laying again.

If you can pick him up you could check if you see any injuries or defects on his legs, I once had a bird that injured himself when he fledged, but in a week or so got better and started flying and walking normally.

If he is still being fed and seems other vice ok, I would not worry to much unless he does not seem to be getting better in a few days.

hi, thanks for the advice. the little one is fully feathered, but not flying.....he is being fed however. his legs look ok but close to the body like he was sitting in the nest too long.........he is small

Then I guess he might not have fledged, they tend to just lie on their legs when they haven't figured out how they work.

I would just put him back into the nest and give him more time to fledge, they sometimes fall out of the nest too early. :)

Put him in the nest and put your hand over the opening for just three minutes. SLOWLY remove your hand after that. he may stay in for a bit.
It's likely that the parents-trying to build again- are kicking him out or picking at him to move. Make a makeshift nest on the floor, open nest in case he has to continue to get out

How old is he?
He should be approx 3 weeks old when he fledges.

If he is coming out repeatedly, don't bother putting him back in.
And remove the nest.

If he keeps coming out - then he is meant to be out and there's nothing you can do to keep him in. Just let him hang out on the bottom of the cage for a few days - no harm. He will learn to fly fairly quickly.
