Nah.... it's just me cant helping myself. :) back to this finch hobby again and voila! look what I did! :D

actually I still make mistake by mistake. (Those pics actually was taken a week ago, but I cant post it - I have problem with my photobucket. :( )

just a few days after the pics were taken, those shafttail are not as close as in the pics. they developed into 2 pairs, but one male is dominating and chase other male, made him cornered at one spot of my aviary. surprisingly this male wont disturb any other species even if they are as close as one foot to its nest.

same behavior also seen on zebra (4) and strawberry pairs (3), though it's not as intensive as the shafttail.

(later I read a lot from e-finch, singing wing aviary etc, they always suggested never to put more than one pair in one flight/aviary) duh! :D

the only pair that lives happily is just my stars (one pair), almost never chase any other.

so I guess, I need to move the non-dominant pair from that aviary to a 3ft cage. I want this pair will also breed without being disturb by others, especially from its own kind. and I'm thinkging of build a safe trap to remove them rather than chasing them with (sort of) butterfly net (of course this also will make me confuse which specimens must be caught, make a chaos of everything inside) lol.

thanks guys. :)

and these are a few updated pics

first morning rain (at around 7am). I thought they all would avoid the rain, but no! they were enjoying the rain so much and even used the rain for bathing.

my poor star. I've provided many nest from many form, but it seem nothing satisfying them. so this male tried to build one by himself on the leaves of the orchid. and even he picked spot where the rain will pour on it (no roof area). I hope he made his best choice.

Wow, gorgeous selection of finches, would love a pic of the Lone Ranger pintailed PF. ( my maybe one day dream bird) I guess they're easily available there, right?

Thanks all, :)

Michelle, to be honest this was my first encounter with PF. I was lucky (and unlucky), only just a few days earlier I read/learned that pintailed PF are local here and then I saw some on a local bird shop/market for sale (not pet shop here, pet shops are for cats and dogs mostly). And I just grabbed 2 pairs for only about 10 USD for all of them.

So they lived in my previous aviary. and just one day I forgot to close the feeding door and I lost 3 of them.

Now every weekend I go to the same bird market to see if they're available. but still to this day I can't find any.

Reading from local websites (photograph sites mostly), theyre telling that they're still can be found in certain place of java. But though they're considered Least Concern species I think availibility is very rare, especially here in Indonesia where keeping bird besides for the sound is VERY UNPOPULAR. Means that most bird are kept for their song. Only a few will keep bird for its beauty.

Decades ago, I was in Bangkok, and they had this huge open-air market. One whole section was birds, all kinds of tropical birds. I was drooling.

Your aviary is just beautiful! Of course your birds are happy, you have provided them with such a good setup--food, water, trees for perching, and plenty of room for flight. Planted aviaries may be a bit more work, but they give the birds more of a natural habitat, so worth it. Congrats!
