Ivan did you do anything to the branches before using them....? I see they are green and easy to bend would love to try my hand at making these...

Ivan I just had a thought I spent the day outside triming my dogwood bushes do you think they would be good to use? I not sure about them being toxic.... opinions please.

And dogwood is on the safe plants list for hookbills, I assume it is the same for finches!ranchnanny wrote: Ivan I just had a thought I spent the day outside triming my dogwood bushes do you think they would be good to use? I not sure about them being toxic.... opinions please.

Yep, they are fresh and easy to bend. I use the finest kind of willow (Salix babylonica). I'm not sure about dogwood bushes, you can give it a try.DanteD716 wrote:I think they are easy to bend and green because they are still aliveranchnanny wrote: Ivan did you do anything to the branches before using them....? Re: Homemade wicker nest: Instructions
LOL!! Ivan I went right outside and striped a whole bunch of dogwood branches... They were small and young cuttings so a couple of hours later I had one started. I can't stop laughing
but I finally got it finished and its doesn't look to bad but the only bird that could use it is a Hummingbird
.
I put it in with the finches and put some bedding in it and they are all over it in and out.
I will try to put another one together and take more time. It was fun!

OK Dante you wanted pics so here they are NO Laughing.....
If nothing else since its so small they can't nest in it they are having fun playing in it and taking the material out of it for a better nest elsewhere.
