I received Scatt yesterday. Because I didn't want to wait for it I treated them Ivermictin a week ago. I think I should wait a bit longer before giving them Scatt, am I right? Ivermictin should be repeated every two weeks, I'm thinking to wait that and then treat them with Scatt.
Unfortunately the male goldfinch isn't gonna make it. He's turned for worse within last two days. Not eating, eyes half closed, sleeping most of the time. Game over for this little fella. I'm so sad, can't help but cry... Image

Ivermectin only stays active for 7 to 8 hours so I don't think there will be any danger in giving Scatt after a week of giving ivermectin. Scatt will remain in their system for 21 days.

Directions for scaly mites:
http://ladygouldian.com/Scatt-air-sac-mite-control
DIRECTIONS for treating Scaly Face and Leg mites: This treatment may take up to 6 weeks. I apply the drop to the skin, as described above, one time, and then again 3 weeks later. After applying this first drop, I place a drop or two onto a cotton bud (Q-tip) and gently wipe it across the affected area. If the mite infestation is on the face, take care not to get any liquid into the eyes or mouth.

Each week thereafter I apply the SCATT liquid only to the affected area using the cotton bud method.

the male goldfinch passed away today. he bled to death. I feel very guilty about it. I caught him to inspect his legs and maybe put some cream on. He had few weird scabs on his legs and when I had him in my hand he managed to rip of of them off and started bleeding. I tried to stop the bleeding and when the blood eventually stopped flowing it was too late - he was too weak to survive such blood loss and died in my hands. it was my fault.
I'm all in tears now but I also think that he is better off dead... he wasn't getting better, he was spending his all day sitting on one spot in the cage because those rotten legs were killing him, he was eating and drinking but not gaining weight, his life was a misery. and the other two birds aren't getting better either. I'm thinking about putting the canary down and letting the female goldfinch fly free... she is the wild bird that was caught and sold for profit by a local scumbag...

I just feel very sorry that we've never recorded his mad singing. he used to sing for hours and hours, there was no way to shut him up. here's only very short video of happy days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iPWWrl389s

So very sorry for your loss. You did everything you could for your bird.

Please don't let the female goldfinch fly free. She may no longer remember fully how to survive in the wild. And if she is carrying this disease that you have fought so hard for so long, she could spread it to the wild population and harm all of them, as well.
