lovely. I just got back from Indonesia where those guys live in the wild. nice birds.

Society finches are a domestic species and do not and never have lived in the wild. What birds were you seeing in Indonesia. I bet there are many cool and unique species there.

I think the birds I was seeing were Javan munias (Lonchura leucogastroides). They looked very simmilar to dark society finches. http://ibc.lynxeds.com/photo/javan-muni ... ush-garden

There were lots of them in the ricefields and I saw one stripping bits from the pandanus trees on the seafront to build a nest.
I have seen White-capped Munia (Lonchura ferruginosa) in bali before, but I didn't see any on Lombok.
