lovely. I just got back from Indonesia where those guys live in the wild. nice birds.

10+ apricot canaries, 8 Bengalese Mannikins, 4 peaceful doves, 10 parrot cichlids, 3 clownfish, 2 damselfish, 1 Birman cat, 3 bantam chooks & more plants than is normal or healthy.

Society finches are a domestic species and do not and never have lived in the wild. What birds were you seeing in Indonesia. I bet there are many cool and unique species there.

I think the birds I was seeing were Javan munias (Lonchura leucogastroides). They looked very simmilar to dark society finches.

There were lots of them in the ricefields and I saw one stripping bits from the pandanus trees on the seafront to build a nest.
I have seen White-capped Munia (Lonchura ferruginosa) in bali before, but I didn't see any on Lombok.
