Karen asked...
So does he look pied, or is he just fawn and white.....or is that the same thing? His markings are pretty symmetrical looking to me, but I don't really know the true definition of pied. (I am, however, very familiar with chocolate pie, as some of you well know.)
Indeed, I believe pied and fawn/white is the same.
There are two basic types of society finches: self and pied.
Self societies don't have patches of color per se; they have a more solid coloring with gradual transitions between the various areas. Depending on the variety, nearly all self societies lack areas of true bright white. (Exception is some of the lighter mutations.)
Pied societies have distinctive patches of color and white. All of your lot are pied.
Beans is a fawn pied, since he's got white patches.
The non-pied version would be a fawn self, which looks like this guy:

I have a special affinity for pied fawns, as my favorite finch ever --- a little society named Elvis --- was a fawn pied. He was the happiest creature ever, yet I don't have a single photo of him which makes me sad. He had the best personality ever. He was just so darn jolly and there wasn't an hour that went by without an enthusiastic song and dance. He was wonderful.
I'd paint my pottery in my bird room (with underglaze, which has no odor, not actual paints) and he'd come and sit on my paintbrush handles (sometimes in the bucket; other times while they were in use) and he'd sing and dance his little heart out! He was the BEST.
