Spreckles, my friends and family all think I am a bit weird to get this excited. I'm quite used to getting the "you are strange" look now, lol!! I just find it all so fascinating and love learning more about their behavior

Elana,
I call the Twinspots my little chickens :D They quite literally spend ages digging in the dirt, looking for bugs and worms. If your birds are kept indoors, in a sterile environment, I would also be a bit hesitant to feed 'wild' food to them. But since my birds are outside, they already catch quite a few of the bugs themselves. I just help them out with the occasional feast. They also eat earwigs and those little grey bugs (think they are called Pill bugs?) All of this is why I deworm every 3 months

Since so many of our wild birds feast on earth worms, I can't imagine that they would be harmful. Keeping fingers and toes crossed that this pair raises their babies. Having waxbills in an aviary certainly helps with the breeding, but this is still supposed to be a difficult species.

Birds that are kept in an outside aviary that allows them access to bugs and grubs, develop a natural immunity that against the germs that their live food carry. A cage kept bird does not have that kind of immunity.

Rox Any news Rox? Do you see a different behaviour pattern with the twins that might indicate chicks?

Marius, they are definitely still taking turns going into the nest and are both hunting the aviary none stop when out. There is also much more interest in the mealworms now, so I am hopeful!

How much noise do twinspot chicks make in the nest? Hopefully I should be hearing some chirps soon!

Rox That sounds positive, hope they will give you a belated Christmas gift. I think that you will only start hearing them when they are about 14 days old.
