Hi Stuart,
Just wondering about your total planned bird population and how you plan to keep the place fed, watered and cleaned. I'm up to 200 now and those were major considerations in the construction of my aviary. Nice job so far...

Hi pual,
Yes fella I know exactly what you mean, I was initially gonna have an indoor flight in there but feel it's gonna take up valuable cage space so am planning on having as much built in cage space as possible I aim to have round 30 odd bengalese and most of these will be in pairs and singles depending on the individual birds this will be ample space and also allows me some space for youngsters which is also important,
Once I've built me cages I'll be able to work out what available space I'll have for any of me waxbills,
I've currently got a few pairs of waxbills and loads of bengalese at me mates house whilst I'm constructing me birdroom,
I bought 2 entire bengalese studs and just simply pick out the best from them and then re-sell the others and also just keep me best waxbills
Feeding and watering is never really a problem pual, it's something that we all do and get used to,
I normally feed and water me birds first thing in the morning,
All seed dishes are in the cages on the floor between the perches, small D cup drinkers are on the cage fronts next to a perch with fine oyster shell in, the other side of the cage front next to the other perch wil be me drinkers for water, I like the continental ( Belgium style ) dumpy drinkers,
I also have egg food drawers ( small round plastic dishes ) that clip under the sliding cage front doors for all egg foods and small mounts of green food,
During the resting and winter months I'll only give some egg food and green food on a weekly basis,
Once the breeding season approaches I'll then increase this to 2-3 times a week and then eventually ever day when rearing,
However I tend to always hold back egg foods and green stuff whilst hens are incubating,
In the birdroom will be worktop space aswell as a small fridge for various bird foods etc, I've also got 2 winnower seed cleaning machines although I'll just fit 1 up on the wall, the other will just be a spare,
This alone will save massively on me seed bill
Gonna be busy now for a fair while building all of these cages
