neojinnx hi mate, thank you for yer comment,

The number of waxbills I'll be keeping in me birdroom will probably be around 30 ish  without going over the top and overcrowding,

All birds will be in pairs per cage, odd single birds will mixed together providing their compatible and a few pairs will be housed in me indoor flights for breeding purposes :-BD

Hi peeps,

My foot is now feeling much better now and am getting about a lot better now, the last couple of days I've been paint stripping the door of me birdroom and then applied 3 coats of stainer, today I've also managed to stain the front wall of me birdroom,

When I get 5 mins I've now gotta use a black stone paint to paint the front and side edge of the concrete roof and then that will be the exterior of me birdroom done,

I've got a delivery due within the next few days of some timber to start building me cages :-BD

The contrast is amazing! It looks beautiful! That is an incredible amount of woodwork , sanding and stain! I remember working with my dad on projects for sheds and houses and it was always a joy to stand back and envision the people using the structures after we were done.

Can't wait to see how you fill that beautiful space!

Hi Stuart, what a nice building you've got there!

It sounded like most birds will be paired in individual cages, but some pairs will be in flights. Did I read that right?

Do you find some of your varieties breed better in a flight?

Nice work!

That is really nice. I wish I had one of those!
Could you post pictures of the interior with the birds when you are able?

Babs

Thank you for yer kind comment, yea it's taken me the last couple of months when time and money allows Babs as there's been quite a bit of work done to the room since I first started,

As mentioned quite a bit earlier in me thread that I've now reconstructed the inside of me room as it's now fully lined with 18mm ply board, two concrete pillars on the inside front wall for strength that have also been boxed in with the board, the floor had also been risen with concrete and blocks and ply boarded on top and not forgetting cutting the hole in the front wall to fit the window as the room had no window beforehand

It's now just a case of building me cages :-BD

Incidentally apart from a few pairs of Bengalese that I've got indoors the rest of me birds are temporarily around me freinds property just down the road until I get some of me cages built in the birdroom :D

Hi mate,

Yes mate to be honest I initially thought about building an indoor flight and some cages aswell but this would drastically cut me cage space down considerably,

The majority of me birds that I'll be keeping will be exhibition Bengalese and few zebras and are easily bred in the cages, also when it comes to sexing the Bengalese I'd need as many cages as possible as it's far easier to single birds for a while to observe the sexes

I've also got some waxbills and a few other foreign finches and to be be honest I'll possibly be letting me freind have a fair few of me waxbills as with the amount that I've got presently at me freinds property as well as me Bengalese and zebras will most probably be to many to keep in me newly constructed birdroom, the birds that I'll decide to keep will be fine in me cages admittedly the waxbills will be a little harder to breed but at least I'll have more cage space as apposed to a flight aswell,

I'll probably know and work out more about the initial layout once I start to properly measure up and start to build \:D/

Has certainly taken some serious thought :D

Thank you Betty,

I'll update more once I start getting a few cages fitted inside, need to get some timber and cage fronts first when money allows, unfortunately not cheap, especially the fronts :-O

May take me a little while

Cheers mate, yea yer more than welcome to fly over and have a look

Shame really, if many of you weren't so far away I'd luv some of you's to pop in and say hello,

Many would probably be walking away with a pair of Bengalese as I've recently just bought 2 entire Bengalese studs that I've currently got around me freinds property temporarily till I get me birdroom soughted

Gonna sought out the best and then let a load go to various beginners and novices :-BD

Hi Stuart,
Just wondering about your total planned bird population and how you plan to keep the place fed, watered and cleaned. I'm up to 200 now and those were major considerations in the construction of my aviary. Nice job so far...

Paul
Favorite hobby is continuing to improve on a landscaped, weather protected, 500 sq ft mixed aviary with 23 fascinating species. 30 years in the making; currently have
19 different Finch species, 2 types of Doves, plus 23 Button Quail and 30 pair of clear Red Factor Canaries.

Hi pual,

Yes fella I know exactly what you mean, I was initially gonna have an indoor flight in there but feel it's gonna take up valuable cage space so am planning on having as much built in cage space as possible I aim to have round 30 odd bengalese and most of these will be in pairs and singles depending on the individual birds this will be ample space and also allows me some space for youngsters which is also important,

Once I've built me cages I'll be able to work out what available space I'll have for any of me waxbills,

I've currently got a few pairs of waxbills and loads of bengalese at me mates house whilst I'm constructing me birdroom,

I bought 2 entire bengalese studs and just simply pick out the best from them and then re-sell the others and also just keep me best waxbills

Feeding and watering is never really a problem pual, it's something that we all do and get used to,

I normally feed and water me birds first thing in the morning,

All seed dishes are in the cages on the floor between the perches, small D cup drinkers are on the cage fronts next to a perch with fine oyster shell in, the other side of the cage front next to the other perch wil be me drinkers for water, I like the continental ( Belgium style ) dumpy drinkers,

I also have egg food drawers ( small round plastic dishes ) that clip under the sliding cage front doors for all egg foods and small mounts of green food,

During the resting and winter months I'll only give some egg food and green food on a weekly basis,

Once the breeding season approaches I'll then increase this to 2-3 times a week and then eventually ever day when rearing,

However I tend to always hold back egg foods and green stuff whilst hens are incubating,

In the birdroom will be worktop space aswell as a small fridge for various bird foods etc, I've also got 2 winnower seed cleaning machines although I'll just fit 1 up on the wall, the other will just be a spare,

This alone will save massively on me seed bill

Gonna be busy now for a fair while building all of these cages :-BD

Hi peeps,

I've now finished the exterior of me Foreign finch room,

Been having some serious thoughts about how to fit the interior of me room IE indoor flight and cages, or just all cages and no flight :YMHUG:

As some of the finches that I'm gonna be keeping in me room preferably breed better results in some kind of a large flight space as apossed to trying to breed in cages it makes sence for me to include a decent size indoor breeding flight and also have some holding cages aswell,

The flight will be about 2.5 ft off of the floor on concrete blocks which will then be boxed in with smooth ply board and the flight will be the full length of me birdroom along the back wall and upto the ceiling and about 2 ft wide

After me flight is built I'll then be making some stock cages which will be placed at both ends of me room, in front of the window will be a length of work top for food preparation etc.

Electrics will then be fitted as I'll also be having full spectrum lighting and night lights etc,

Slowly but surely when money allows me birdroom is coming along \:D/
