the belly is not normal, the belly is lumpy and it looks like the organs are inflamed.
Baytril should never be used on young baby birds that are still developing.
You can mix Ronivet powder with tri sulfa powder to one part water
dose either by making the formula with it or beak dosing it. I would let the crop empty after feeding once empty before feeding drop a drop of nystatin into the mouth then feed.
Never add anything extra to formula... formula is mostly carbs, rice cereal is mostly carbs... babies that are ill usually have yeast as a secondary issue, yeast feeds off carbs. Also adding additives to the formula messes with the vitamin, mineral intake of the baby as it develops.
As far as the feeding from day one theory the mother can pass bacteria and certain diseases to the egg before she lays it.
Also babies should not be fed a lot of food for the first few days until the egg sac on the belly is absorbed.... you can give a drop or two of a very diluted formula mix a few times a day do not attempt to fill the crop while the baby has the egg sac, do not feed 1 and 2 dayold babies through the night, it will help it absorb the egg sac. Once the egg sac is absorbed then you can start a regular feeding. Warmth is a must with young.
The longer the egg sac remains non absorbed the more chance you stand of bacteria infection setting in and there is no way to treat it since the egg sac has no blood supply.
Also check your parents droppings.
Tri sulfa is slow acting, very safe to use on babies, it does not mess with the gut flora like other antibiotics do.
Also babies that do not have their eyes open will react to movement, breeze and appear to beg even when the crop is full, do not over feed. The begging like that will stop once the eyes are open.
