I never did, but my biggest complaint when I did it this way was that it would just lump together into broccoli egg balls.

It wasn't until later I read you could add corn meal to dry it out and make it crumbly, but I haven't tried that yet..
After I run the hb eggs through the food processor for about 3 seconds - I pour the eggs into a LARGE bowl and add: Orlux Tropical Finch eggfood, processed brocolli, carrots, (whatever other veggies I have on hand), soakseed well rinsed and drained after soaking in water and apple cider vinegar overnight or 12 - 24 hours. My finches get this every morning of every day of the year no matter what and they ALL flock to it every morning. Whether they are breeding or not. The babies and youngsters are raised on this and look forward to it as much as the adults. :D

If you haven't tried Orlux Tropical Finch eggfood - it's a dry commercial eggfood based on cornmeal and has krill in it along will egg (obviously) and lots of other WONDERFUL stuff for finches!

I am a big fan of Orlux, but I usually use the Gold Patee.

I recently tried the Fruitti Patee and the birds are devouring it! I'm a bit surprised actually.

I have tried the insect patee before but the birds did not seem to care for it, and I couldn't stand the smell..

I haven't tried any of the patee's. It just sounds 'wet' to me.

LOL!

It does, but they aren't.

I would definitely say they are moister than the other really crumbly dry versions, that are like stale dry bread almost.. which my birds never ate (like the Cede or Quicko egg foods).

But it's not patee like I think of that comes out of an aluminum can!

My parrot finches and goldbreast love the insect patee. It is mixed with honey and when fresh that is what I smell. Maybe you had an old or spoiled bag. I offer it in a seperate seed cup and they love it. I keep it in a jar in the refidgerator and in the frezzer long term.
I love all the fruitti and gold label too. My gouldians are not crazy about any eggfood mixes. I give them straight boiled eggs and they love that, but dare I try to mix it, add anything to it and they just turn thier noses up to it :? So they get different food throughout the day or on different days.

Mine love the pate. Just a note about romaine - I just put a large piece on the bottom of each cage, and almost all of the birds pounce on it. None have any problems tearing off bite-sized pieces, and it certainly keeps them busy for awhile!

Well, I chopped ... and they didn't touch it. I'm back to shredded, it is shredded thinly, though. I agree with Hilary, they have no problems tearing off small bits, even the tiny Strawberries, and it keeps everyone busy and active. Believe it or not, I think I have 'fat' birds. I think they're called 'perch-potatoes' !

I admit I've never given my finches Romaine lettuce... until 20 minutes ago. I was very surprised at how many went to it immediately! Just about every bird in the room mad a dash for the large piece of lettuce I put on the floor of their cage - young and older alike; Australian and African! I'll definitely do this every week. =D>

I don't think that there is a lot of nutrition in romaine, but it's the only veggie my goulds will eat, and it adds some variety to their diet. Plus just about everybody loves it!

There might not be a lot of nutrition in the Romaine lettuce but I've read & heard to NOT give them Iceberg lettuce; so Romaine has to be better than Iceberg at least.

Right, the Iceburg has little nutritional value, plus a higher water content which, supposedly, promotes diarrhea.

Same here! ALL my birds love romaine and the gouldians are already waiting in the morning to get it. I clip whole leaves on the branches and they "bite" pieces off. I usually put in 3 large leaves and they are always shredded completely at the end of the day...
I tried spinach, kale, broccoli,... you name it. Nothing gets eaten like the romaine. I always put in a couple dishes of other veggies and fruit as well, such as finely ground carrots, corn, finely diced zucchini, apple, etc but it's mostly the budgies that eat them. The waxbills and gouldians don't seem to care for veggies or fruit.
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Yep - I tried kale and collard greens, and nobody would touch them. Every bird except for the goulds also loves cucumbers - I just slice them in rounds and drop them on the floors of the cages, and for the most part just gather up little rounds of cucumber skin at the end of the day.
